Black Art In America is proud to announce an upcoming featured print release by Carolina artist Beverly Smith. This will also be the featured print for the 2026 BAIA Fine Art Print Fair. Information Wanted—Nina, Ada & Suky will be released as an archival pigment print on premium paper in a limited edition of only 20 , offering collectors a rare opportunity to acquire a work rooted in history, memory, and the enduring stories of Black women.
Smith is a mixed-media fiber artist whose practice is deeply connected to her Southern upbringing and ancestral heritage. Drawing upon the traditions of quiltmaking, she constructs richly layered works using patterned fabrics, machine stitching, hand embroidery, paint, transferred imagery, found objects, reclaimed garments, and graphite drawings. Vintage materials and personal photographs often become vehicles through which family members, historical figures, and women of cultural significance are transformed into ancestors who speak across generations.
- Her work frequently explores the Antebellum South, inherited memory, Southern expressions, and subjects that were once considered taboo or left unspoken. Inspired by conversations with her mother, grandmother, and aunts, Smith uses fabric as both material and metaphor—quilting together histories that might otherwise be fragmented, forgotten, or overlooked.
