"Crowned In Her Glory" by Michael Gibson

22 x 30 inches, serigraph on paper, limited edition #46 of 50

Growing up in London, Ontario, Canada in the 1970’s may not seem like an ideal inspirational source for Michael C. Gibsons African American art. Yet, that’s exactly where his inspiration stemmed from: a tree, stones on the road, a girl’s smile, an old man pausing to catch his breath. Michael believes all things from the Creator are worthy of praise and study. This is where he began his journey not so long ago.

As the son of two Jamaican immigrant parents, they worried for him and had preconceived notions of what a career as an artist might look like. His parents are now exceedingly proud and supportive of his career choice and can see the success in his art.

He trained at Toronto’s prestigious Sheridan College in 1992 where he was presented with the best artist and Outstanding Achievement Awards by his faculty. This accolade was confirmation of a talent honed through many gruelling years of study.

Like a skilled craftsman, Michael meticulously labours on his art today. His consistent pursuit of fine detail has culminated into works that can best be described as photo-realistic. Yet his chosen tool to capture the world around us is the most humble of instruments: a pencil. Humble yet formidable, Michael must often accompany his art with a small sign that reads “This is not a photograph", as art collectors are often amazed by what he can do with a pencil.
