Banff International Curatorial Institute: Curating While Black
Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity’s Banff International Curatorial Institute: Curating While Black is a hybrid research residency designed to support Black curators in advancing an individual curatorial
research project while learning with peers and faculty through structured dialogue, feedback, and symposia. The program spans one week online (January 25–29, 2027) followed by two weeks in person at the Banff Centre campus in Alberta, Canada (February 1–12, 2027).

Participants engage in one‑on‑one mentorship, group discussions, faculty talks, and independent writing studios, with intentional opportunities for exchange across disciplines and concurrent residencies on campus. The residency is open to curators with professional experience in visual arts, material culture, performance, film/video, and public programming,and collaborative pairs are welcome.
Applications are due May 13, 2026 (11:59 p.m. MST). There are scholarship opportunities to help with costs, and the program aims to foster critical exchange and individual project development within a vibrant creative environment.
