BAIA Fine Art Print Fair Recap – Artist Spotlight: Jamaal Barber

BAIA Fine Art Print Fair Recap – Artist Spotlight: Jamaal Barber

Relive the magic of the BAIA Fine Art Print Fair with this highlight from our Artist Spotlight series featuring Jamaal Barber. Born in Virginia and raised in North Carolina, Jamaal discovered printmaking in 2013 and has since developed a distinctive style through woodcuts and mixed-media prints.

In this session, Jamaal shared his creative journey — from illustrating the Folio Society’s special edition of The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead to appearing in the MTV/Smithsonian Channel’s The Exhibit. His work has also been commissioned by Twitter, The New York Times, Penguin Random House, Black Art in America, and Emory University.

Now based in Atlanta with his wife and two children, Jamaal continues to create powerful, culturally resonant art that connects history, storytelling, and design.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating 100 years of African American printmaking. Stay tuned for more artist spotlights and highlights from BAIA events.
