About Brandywine Workshop and Archives (BWA)
Founded in 1972, Brandywine Workshop and Archives (BWA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering innovation in printmaking, supporting emerging, mid-career and master artists, and preserving the legacy of innovative artistic voices. Our mission is to advance the printmaking arts through education, collaboration, engagement, and exploration while our vision is to create a more broad and dynamic art world by bridging tradition with contemporary practices.
Residency Opportunity
BWA is proud to offer a fully funded two-week print production residency for individual artists. This highly competitive program emphasizes innovation, experimentation, and the creation of NEW WORK—rather than the reproduction of existing images or traditional processes. Selected artists will have the unique opportunity to push boundaries by incorporating new materials and technologies (such as digital cutters) alongside traditional printmaking techniques.
Residency Highlights
- Collaboration with Master Printers: Work side-by-side with BWA’s expert printmakers in screenprinting, lithography, monoprint and/or relief printing.
- Studio Access: Access to BWA’s professional printmaking facilities, including technical support.
- Archival Research: Explore BWA’s extensive collection of prints and ephemera by global artists.
- Stipend & Materials: Receive a $5,000 (USD) stipend and materials support.
- Public Engagement: Optional open studio and/or artist talk to share your creative process with the community.
- Travel & Accommodations: In-person residencies include travel and hotel accommodations for non-local artists.
Eligibility
- Open to artists working in various visual art genres, i.e. painting, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, and/or interdisciplinary practices.
- Artists from all backgrounds and mediums are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Emphasis on artists who extend their aesthetic practice into printmaking, rather than replicating existing work.
Names and application materials (image files, resumes, etc.) are reviewed by our Art Selection Committee. Finalists are chosen based on artistic excellence, innovation, and alignment with BWA’s mission and vision.
