Edwards \u003cbr\u003esources images from her current life both to channel the racial and gendered \u003cbr\u003eisolation she experienced as a child and express the limitations of her strict, \u003cbr\u003ePentecostal upbringing, with her collage subjects as distinctive versions of her \u003cbr\u003eyounger self.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eBorn in 1978 in Alexander City, Alabama, Edwards studied at the Art Institute \u003cbr\u003eof Atlanta (AA in Graphic Design, 1998), Auburn University of Montgomery \u003cbr\u003e(B.A., Art Education, 2002), and the University of Alabama at Birmingham \u003cbr\u003e(M.A. Art Education, 2012). She is the recipient of many awards, including \u003cbr\u003ethe Purchase Award from the Alabama Art Colony in both 2005 and 2006, \u003cbr\u003eand “Best of Show” in the Montgomery Art Guild and Regions Bank \u003cbr\u003eExhibition in 2019. In 2021, she earned the Alabama State Council for the \u003cbr\u003eArts Fellow Award.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn 2019, Edwards participated in the Gee’s Bend Quilters Retreat at the \u003cbr\u003eAlabama Folk School in Nauvoo, Alabama. She later exhibited alongside \u003cbr\u003efamed quilters Tinnie and Minnie Pettway and Claudia Pettway Charley in \u003cbr\u003eGood Trouble: Civil Rights Past and Present (February 2-March 26, 2021) at \u003cbr\u003ethe Kentuck Art Center in Northport, Alabama. Other recent exhibitions have \u003cbr\u003ebeen presented at Untitled Art Miami Beach 2021, the Gadsden Museum of \u003cbr\u003eArt and Tennessee Valley Museum of Art.
