There is a reason
Poets write
about her
Photographers took pictures
of her
Famous people sought autographs
from her
Preachers were an opening act
for her
Singers sought answers
inside her
Musicians asked God for a gig
with her
Parents danced in the living room
to her
Women heard their stories
in her
Men heard women
through her
The powerful wanted to stand
by her
Those needing freedom marched beside her
Songs wanted to be written
because of her
Poems are written
about her
So those born
without her
will know
why we call it soul music
