At a young age he was fascinated by the illustrations in children's books and the colorful images in comic books. He started drawing on the back of his tests in elementary school and was soon drawing on any material that he could find. He finally decided to become an artist after reading about the life of Romare Bearden in high school. In 2003, Jamaal graduated with a BA in Communication Arts from East Carolina University. While in school he won the 2002 JOSA award for drawing and 1st Place in Graphic Design for the Rebel Magazine, the annual ECU student art awards magazine. In 2004, Jamaal moved to Atlanta where he now resides with his wife and two children. He has worked doing graphic design work for Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. and Spoken Magazine. His fine art painting has been displayed at the Art on 5 and with the Mano-a- Mano art show. In 2013 after seeing a screen printing demo at a local art store, Barber started experimenting with printmaking and has made it his focus. At a young age, he was fascinated by the illustrations in children's books and the colorful images in comic books. His prints have been included in the Atlanta Printmaker Studio Biennial show and the Hudgens Center For The Arts.

"Brother Harry" by Ed McCluney

11.5 x 15 inches, intaglio print on paper, artist proof edition-- unframed

"Strategy" by Ed McCluney

13.5 x 17.75 inches, intaglio print on paper, edition 1 of 20-- unframed

"Off To Shop" by Ed McCluney

12 x 12 inches, relief print on paper, edition 15 of 20-- unframed

"War No More" by Steve Prince

18 x 24 inches, linocut on paper, limited edition 10 of 30-- unframed

Steve A. I have been drawing since the age of 4 after watching my father draw portraits.” Her main focus is on creating portraits that are thought provoking. About the meaning and content of her work she states “My work focuses on themes related to Black identity and being a black woman in todays cultural and political climate. I also like to focus on historical narratives and individuals. My ideas are often expressed in the form of cultural allegory and social realism. I am motivated by art that has an underlying message that engages the viewer in a way they can relate to. Art for me is many things but mainly it is my passion and my voice when I have a statement to make. It has also been my protest when circumstances of injustice arise. I never grow weary creating only resentful that there is not more time in a day to print, draw or paint.” Ms. Mims is formally trained in the visual arts with degrees from Florida A and M university (BA)and Tyler school of art, Temple university(MFA).
